University of Advancing Technology Student Offers eBay Bidders Control over His Life

University of Advancing Technology Student Offers eBay Bidders Control over His Life March 18, 2005-- Daniel Scarberry, a University of Advancing Technology (UAT) software engineering student, is offering online bidders the chance to run his life for him in the same way they would a character in a role-playing game. The winning bidder will be able to control Daniel's life, within reason, for two weeks after bidding ends on Monday, March 21. Scarberry is many things -- a college student, a technophile and an avid videogamer -- but, for now at least, he's also eBay auction item No. 5963566127 and he's willing to become anything you want him to be. Within reason, of course: Daniel has offered bidders at online auction Web site eBay the opportunity to run his life for him in the same way they would a character in a computer role-playing game like "The Sims." In "The Sims," players control the lives of virtual people (Sims), making fundamental life decisions for them -- diet, housing, occupation, even whether or not to be friendly with their neighbors. As Scarberry says in his plea at http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5963566127, "If you've never had a child, but have always wanted one (or are curious what it's like), this is your chance to have your very own college student." Scarberry is allowing winning bidders a reasonable amount of control over his life, but he does stipulate that he will not put himself at personal risk (such as committing acts of violence or jumping off a building), miss classes at UAT, or "entertain nudity." Bidders may, however, feed him (he is, after all, a college student), chat with him, or, if they're in need of cheap advertising, turn him into a human billboard. Very supportive bidders may also employ him or send him on vacation at their own expense. Scarberry plans to film the experience if bidding goes beyond $500. He will also donate a percentage of the winning bid to the American Cancer Society. For additional information about UAT, please visit http://www.uat.edu.
