Councilman Mattox Donates $52,500 to Charities District 5 Councilman Claude Mattox recently delivered checks totaling more than $50,000 to four local charities. The donations were the proceeds from the Councilman’s recent Margarita Bash party at Cricket Pavilion in west Phoenix. The donations included $15,000 to the United Phoenix Firefighters Association Adopt-A-Fence program and $12,500 each to Phoenix Children’s Hospital, the Grand Canyon Wrestling Club and the Jacori Rufus Memorial Scholarship. The wrestling club is a program for Phoenix youth and the scholarship helps Maryvale High School students pay for college. “This is a great way to support the community, with programs that benefit young people in west Phoenix,” said Mattox. “We have a good time and raise money for great causes. I appreciate the community’s support.” The Adopt-A-Fence program provides pool fences for Phoenix families. “We are dependent on efforts like Councilman Mattox’s to make our program a success,” said Captain Rich Bauer, director of Community Programs for the United Phoenix Firefighters Association. “Pool fences are absolutely critical for saving children’s lives.” This is the third charity event Councilman Mattox has held, raising more than $85,000 altogether. He is planning another one for 2006.
